Wine advice from De Wijnhandelaar · More about us

Which Italian red wine suits my taste?

Start with the tasting notes. Solenne Negroamaro/Primitivo combines dark fruit with a soft, fresh style. iLauri Bajo Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is juicy, with black cherry and blackberry. For more intensity, Guerriero Nero offers ripe cherry and cocoa. These are examples from our range; the guide above the selection shows currently available bottles.

Which Italian red should I choose with pasta?

Start with your sauce, then check the wine’s pairing advice. Solenne is recommended with pasta and ragù, Bajo with pasta and poultry, and Neropasso with pasta and red meat. Compare soft and fresh styles with juicy or velvety ones. Explore red wine with pasta for more bottles to match your meal.

Which Italian red wine suits drinks or a meat dish?

For drinks and nibbles, start with flavours you enjoy. If you like soft or velvety reds, compare the available bottles in the guide or browse soft red wine. For a meal with red meat or game, Guerriero Nero is one example from our selection. Baglio Gibellina Passimiento Rosso is recommended with red meat and cheese. For other colours and flavours, explore wine for drinks and nibbles.

Is fruity or soft Italian red wine also sweet?

No. Fruity describes aromas and flavours; soft describes the feel of the wine. If you are looking for dry Italian reds, that distinction matters: cherry, plum, raisin or cocoa in the tasting notes do not indicate residual sugar levels. If a bottle is not explicitly described as dry or sweet, ask us before choosing.

Can I taste Italian reds side by side?

Yes. In the wine box you can combine three, six, nine or twelve bottles yourself. Compare grapes from different Italian regions, for example. For a tasting box of three similarly priced bottles, use the home tasting box to choose red wine and the single-country option, then select Italy. Start rating only once your wines have arrived and you are ready to taste.
